Last year, The Wilson County Health Department in conjunction with the Healthcare Foundation of Wilson opened a health clinic for students at Forest Hills Middle School.  The clinic is known as the Wilson Area School Health Center (WASH), and it is a full-service clinic with a nurse and nurse practitioner. At WASH, students whose parents complete the necessary paperwork can be seen for wellness checkups, sick visits and lab work (including blood, influenza, strep and other infections).  While WASH does not offer X-rays onsite, referrals can be made to any outpatient imaging center. This year, WASH expanded its services to both students and staff at Forest Hills.

We are excited to now offer this opportunity to all Wilson County Schools employees. Being seen at WASH has proved beneficial for our staff because they can be seen during planning, and the process is much quicker than waiting in a doctor’s office. It also lessens the amount of sick leave time a teacher would have to take, and the amount of time his/her class needs to be covered.

The following procedures will need to be followed for Wilson County Schools employees to be seen at WASH:

  1. Employee will need to ask permission from his/her principal or supervisor to set up an appointment and leave campus

  2. Employee will need to call and schedule an appointment; no walk-ins will be allowed

  3. Employee will need to report to the main office at Forest Hills with his/her Wilson County Schools employee ID

  4. Employee will need to bring an active insurance card to each visit because insurance will be billed for the visit like a normal visit to any primary care provider

  5. Employee will be escorted to WASH by a Forest Hills staff member

In order to promote safety, we need all employees to follow the above guidelines.  The nurse practitioner does cover office hours at the Wilson County Health Department on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.  Therefore, an appointment will ensure the nurse practitioner is on campus and available to see employees. Appointments will also guarantee a prompt visit at WASH.

Forest Hills and WASH look forward to partnering with all schools and departments.  We strongly feel that WASH can provide another opportunity to promote health and wellness in Wilson County Schools.  If you have any questions, please contact WASH by phone at 252-360-0769 or email - or calling.
